Unfused amnion: The amnion and chorion are two separate membranes that surround the fetus that usually fuse to each other and to the uterine wall by week 14-18. Some authors believe that unfused amnion and chorion after week 14 (Ulm) or week 17 (Bromley) is associated with an increased risk of chromosomal aneuploidy and/or structural malformations.
