Cuban health care: My understanding is that Cuban health care is actually quite good. Some people with MS have a simple, healthy course. Just because he lives in Cuba does not mean there is a problem. Perhaps he should visit with a neurologist from time to time. If he needs specific help, he could post a question here, or you could post it for him. Or he is welcome to try one of our virtual consults.

Suggestions: Although not enthusiastic about outcome in absence of potent MS meds, could at least try these approaches: low fat, low salt diet, Vitamin D-3 at 5000 units daily, stop smoking, aerobic exercise. Maybe if he can get to Miami and obtain MS meds there, might have far better outcome. Also, contact Doctors Without Borders, as they may have some members on the island..

Verify the Dx: Before I did anything else I would try to obtain copies of your uncle's medical records to have them reviewed by a Stateside neurologist. I'm not implying that he was misdiagnosed, but when dealing with a disease like MS in a Second-world country, where diagnostic resources may not be the same as here, I'd want to be sure first that the diagnosis is not in doubt.
