A member asked:

Can you tell me about normal systolic, high diastolic, with little difference in numbers. 118/100?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

OK: Your blood pressure falls into a category noted as isolated diastolic hypertension. In the past, diastolic blood pressure was considered a greater risk for poor heart outcomes. More recently studies have shown that isolated diastolic blood pressure does not carry the same risk as isolated systolic (top number) blood pressure. Monitor and follow with your doctor. 118/40 is actually a higher risk
