Tough Luck: Since the treatment of acute and chronic pancreatitis is not much different, you can consider giving your pancreas some rest once in a while with IV fluids and no food by mouth. In the meantime, consider smaller 4-5 meals a day low in fats and enzyme replacements to ease the pancreatic burden. Your doctor can also look for complication like growth to make your symptoms worse. Good luck!

Difficult.: Acute exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis (i.e., pain getting worse) warrants medical evaluation ASAP. Sometimes, idiopathic (= "we don't know the cause") pancreatitis seems to be autoimmune (antibodies against pancreas); steroids & other immunosuppressants can help.Pancreatic enzymes taken orally with acid suppressor (eg. omeprazole), & antioxidants (vitamin C, E, riboflavin, selenium) may help.

Reevaluation: Get your doctor to reevaluate you for the cause of the severe abdominal pain and if nothing else is diagnosed other than pain related to your chronic condition, then pain control with drugs will be appropriate
