Nasal congestion: When you lie down your nasal tissue swells due to gravity. That can make you mouth breathe depending on the severity of the congestion. The dryness caused by mouth breathing can make your throat sore. Try a humidifier at your bed side.

Nose: Could be dryness of your climate from heat or a/c. You may have a deviated septum adding to the dryness or a prominent nasal cycle. Try a saline nasal spray and a humidifer. If its still a problem see an ENT
