Over-exercise?: Is your workout too intense? At age 40, the American Heart Association's average maximum heart rate is 180 beats per minute. If your workout heart rate is too high (at/above 85% of that) for your fitness level, if you don't allow enough rest between sets in your workout, or if you don't allow enough rest days between high-intensity workout days, then you could be suffering from over-exercise.
