Med for mono???: If you take ampicillin or amoxicillin for strep while you have mono, you will get a rash all over. So you treat the strep with Penicillin VK, not ampicillin. You may also have a rash as part of mono. After mono is gone, you can take amoxicillin without a rash. I am glad the rash is clearing, so you may not need to do anything. Amoxicillin?: Were you prescribed Amoxicillin for the strep throat? If so, the combination of a mono infection plus amoxicillin can cause a rash. Once you are done with the amoxicillin, the rash will subside. Alternatively, you can get a "sandpaper" rash from strep itself. That subsides when the strep infection is improving. Mono takes longer to get better - 4-6 weeks.
