Around 1-3%: It is 9 times more common in women and the prevalence is approx. 1-3%. The mean age is 18 with a range of 12-35 years. Also upto 50% of patients with anorexia nervosa develop binging/purging symptoms.

Be careful: Do not confuse binge eating disorder with obesity, the rates for which are very high. Most people with obesity do not have binge eating disorder.
