Could be: The symptoms you are talking about suggest a small nerve branch that is pinched on the side of your thumb. These do not sound like much to worry about. Give it some time. Most often this symptom is caused by a mild injury to the nerve in the thumb that heals in 1-2 weeks. If your symptoms last longer than it would be appropriate to have more evaluation.

Nerve Entrapment: Your description does suggest some nerve impingement - which could be at several different levels. See a Hand Specialist or Orthopedic Surgeon to address this problem. Your Primary Care Physician can also be very helpful with starting NSAIDs, use of a temporary splint, and ordering EMG's (Nerve conduction tests) to determine what level the constriction is at.
