Your toe??????: What did you do with your toe? While possible, a whittlow of a toe is most unusual.You can get a viral culture to see if you have herpes in the toe and which kind of herpes. A viral culture is not the same as a routine bacterial culture. It must be collected in a different tube and the lab must be instructed to look for herpes. A blood test will not determine if there is herpes in the toe.

Not necessarily.: Herpetic whitlow causes painful blisters and usually occurs in the fingertip. About 60% of cases are due to HSV-1 (oral herpes) and 40% of cases are due to HSV-2 (the cause of genital herpes). Best wishes to you.
