Coronary stents: There are multiple coronary arteries in the heart, the most critical of which is the LAD artery. The number of stents utilized to treat coronary blockages depends on the number of arteries that have critical blockages & how many blockages per arteru. The goal is to open up all of the critical narrowed areas to increase flow to the heart to decrease heart attack risk. Other option is open surgery.
