How do you know?: Did he do an RPR or a VDRL test? If yes, these are tests for syphilis. There are other tests also like Treponemal antibody test. It would be reasonable to talk to you doctor for an explanation.

Probably OK: STD testing often includes syphilis. But in some situations it doesn't matter. Except in special circumstances, syphilis is very rare in most heterosexuals in the US and other industrialized countries, especially at your age of 18. So most likely you aren't at risk. But if you think you're at risk or would like reassurance, it shouldn't be a big deal to be tested. Ask your doctor about it.
