Sore throat: A sore throat is not always on both sides of the throat. Important information is how long has it been there, is there any swelling of the tonsil or area around the tonsil. Is there a fever or tender nodes on the neck on the same side. Sore throats can be infections from both viruses or bacteria. One one side of throat could be a peritonsilar abscess. Best to see your PCP if does not get better

Sore Throat Causes: A sore throat can have many causes. Often, sore throats are from a cold or allergies. It seems like you are worried about a sexually transmitted infection. Tests for STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) are available through most primary care doctors.
