A member asked:

Bite by a lone star tick, itchy and swelled. i got some cream, still itchy. if allergic to beef how soon would you know? i assume only a small % are?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Lone Star Tick bite: This tick introduces an alpha sugar that can stimulate antibobies. These can cross react with red meat. Antibodies form within hours. The local reaction is an indication of your immune response. Multiple exposures will make the reaction and response worse. If beef or red meat allergy results, the reaction to the red meat occurs within 6 hours.
