A member asked:

If you had syphilis in your twenties and it was treated and now you're fifty, can it cause your blood pressure to start elevating and damage heart?

Syphilis: There does not appear to be a relationship between syphilis and essential hypertension. Whether it can damage the heart would depend upon the stage of syphilis when it was treated and the type of therapy administered. it is unlikely.

Unlikely: If it was treated appropriately it should not have any consequences later in life.
