Irritation: Diane, the acid irritated your throat. This could last several days to a week. See your doctor about having your reflux treated, as this is the root cause. In the meantime, avoid alcohol, smoking, caffeine, and fatty or spicy foods. Hope this helps!

Severe reflux: Move to a PPI- Prilosec or Prevacid OTC. No more Motrin or Aleve (naproxen) for few days. Let your doc know. Your symptoms are suggesting worsening reflux disease or GERD. Seek immediate medical attention if blood in vomitus or severe pain.

Reflux: Silent acid reflux or LPR can cause that symptom. Drink lots of water and consider an antacid to help. You should have your throat checked with an ENT as well

Burn: The esophagus and pharynx (throat) can experience a chemical burn resulting in swelling, pain and globus (lump) sensation. Increase water intake, temporary H2 blocker, dietary modification (avoid fatty, spicy, caffeinated foods) and time. If symptoms persist, see an otolaryngologist for pharynx evaluation.
