Wow.: I imagine that was quite a shock. I am sure that ileostomy isn't part of the usual treatment of pneumonia. I think you need to inquire further when your doctor makes the rounds, if still hospitalized. Maybe you had a bowel emergency as well such as obstruction or necrotic bowel after loss of blood flow. If you were extremely ill in ICU that could be possibly connected. Perplexing.

Need more informatio: Generally it is done when a person can not pass feces through the anus. A diversion of the healthy part of the large intestine is drawn out of the abdominal wall through an incision into a pouch to collect stool. Many times this could be temporary and could be surgically reversed after healing of the diseasedor incised l arge intestine
