Chest pain causes: One possible cause of this is costochondritis, which is inflammation of the joints between the sternum (chest plate) and the ribs. Another possible cause of this is inflammation of the pericardium, tissue around the heart. It may cause chest pain too. Have you had any tests to evaluate this? Chest pain can be an important symptom. It's hard to evaluate over the internet.
