Corpus luteum: It sounds like a foreign language, but is actually the space in the ovary where the egg came out which develops into a "yellow body"(corpus luteum) which usually provides progesterone support to the developing pregnancy until the placenta takes over that function at 12-14 weeks. Without progesterone Rx the pregnancy fails.
