A member asked:

If you touch a cold sore, is washing your hands enough to get rid of virus on hands?

Yes: But it will not spread on you anyway. You are shedding herpes virus on many days when there is no sore at all. If you have recurrent symptoms, there are prescription pills which are very effective. None of the creams do much. If you are to benefit, you must fill the prescription now so you can take the pills at the very first sensation of an impending cold sore.

Yes: Yes. Good hand hygiene, such as washing with soap and water for 15 seconds, can remove the virus from your hands.
