What can i expect during a vaginal ultrasound?

Vaginal ultrasound: The probe will be inserted into your vagina. Through the crystal at the top of the probe sound waves will be sent and returned, and processed in the machine. The picture that you may see on the screen will be white and black and various shades of grey. The uterus will be white mostly and the bladder will be black. They will look at your tubes and ovaries as well as the uterus.

Vaginal Ultrasound: Ultrasounds uses sound waves to look at your internal anatomy. There is no radiation exposure and that's why they are used on pregnant women. A transvaginal ultrasound involves a thin probe that is inserted, with lubrication, into the vagina. In many ways it will feel similar to a pap smear in that is is typically painless but you may feel some pressure-like discomfort from the probe.

Like long pap test: Pelvic ultrasound typically begins with an ultrasound of the abdomen and then a vaginal probe is inserted (about the size of speculum used for pelvic/pap exam). The probe is moved by technician for better views of the ovaries. Usually only a few minutes is necessary with the vaginal probe in the vagina.
