HFM: Yes. HFM doesn't always cause a skin rash. Sometimes you just get the mouth lesions. These can be very, very painful. The pain is so severe that they won't drink, or even swallow their own saliva. Dehydration can be an issue. Make sure you are treating the pain, and forcing fluids. If s/he is refusing to drink, get to the doctor for better pain control. Fever can last up to a week. Good luck!

Could be HFM: It could be HFM because sometimes that occurs with only sores in the mouth and fever. It does not usually need treatment as it is a viral infection that usually resolves on its own. Cool liquids and avoiding acidic foods can help with the mouth pain. Tylenol (acetaminophen) or motrin can help with fevers. If child appears very ill, as high fevers or if diagnosis is unclear then they should be seen by MD
