High transaminases: Hi. They probably did a blood test and found hi liver enzymes (transaminases, ALT and AST). Elevations of ALT & AST are NOT specific for liver infection, however. They will test for hepatitis viruses, but for other non-infectious causes of hepatitis as well (such as fatty liver, iron overload, autoimmune liver disease, etc, etc). Follow up with your doctor to get to the bottom of this. Good luck!
