For some: As these big teeth push up through bone and then gum tissue they can be uncomfortable. If they are impacted which means they will not emerge correctly they can be painful. Your dentist can x-ray and tell you what needs to be done.

Certainly: As teeth erupt, there are changes that allow them to move through the bone and gum tissue. Think of a baby's pain as teeth enter the mouth. It's essentially the same. What's unique about third molars is their position. Often there is not enough roommforthem in the mouth. They can get infected as they erupt, or you can bite on the tissues and they can swell. The pressure of eruption can hurt.
