A member asked:

How effective is ciprofloxacin in treating external otitis? do i need to consult a specialist once the antibiotics are over?

Otitis externa: This is usually treated topically and not with pills. Antibiotic ear drops can treat an underlying bacterial infection. Corticosteroid ear drops can help reduce swelling. If a fungus is present, antifungal ear drops. Acidic ear drops can help kill bacteria, and particularly acetic acid (vinegar) may be helpful. If you are receiving Ciprofloxacin by drops that is fine. Good luck.

No: Ciprofloxin otic suspension or solutions is great. But is the symptoms get worse quickly you need to go to urgent care. If you feel better the next step is to make sure your ears are dry after you shower.
