What is the systolic in systolic murmur?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pumping Time!: The ventricles of the heart pump blood to the lungs and to the rest of the body. The portion of the cardiac cycle where they fill with blood is known as diastole. The portion where they contract to push that blood forward is known as systole. A murmur which occurs during this portion of the cardiac cycle is known as a systolic murmur.
