Arthritis: Arthritis does cause pain. Not sure what your doctor meant by it not causing pain. I recommend you talk to him and get your issues addressed.

?: There's some misunderstanding between you and your doctor. Arthritis definitely causes pain - in fact, that's the primary symptom. The first question is what kind of arthritis this is. Then what types of meds are you taking currently. Third, do you need to be referred to a rheumatologist, orthopedic surgeon, or pain specialist.

Pain: is common symptom of all form arthritis as stated by other responders to the question. If your pain is so severe you may want to find out if you have inflammatory arthritis. Symptoms may include stiffness that last longer than 3o minutes, joint swellings and deformity. Request for Rheumatology consult.
