Chest pain: Chest pain and shortness of breath can be caused by a heart attack or blockage of the arteries around the heart. It could also indicate blood clots in the lung, or pulmonary embolism. Your dad needs to go to the ER immediately for evaluation. Untreated heart and lung disease can result in sudden death.
