Is social work becoming a rare profession? i keep seeing how it slowly being taken over by other professions (ie. psych nurses do in case management)

No: Social worker especially with masters or licensed still are needed. They have skill sets which other providers do not get training for. Case management is for medical causes and not necessarily for social issues. Social workers are definitely needed in many areas of medicine

Not where I'm from: I hail from the northeast and we are utilizing more and more social workers to serve as an integral part of multidisciplinary care teams for complicated patients - both in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
