Yes: Respiratory viruses can cause inflammation of the Eustachian tubes. These tubes allow you to equalize pressures in your ears. Decongestants or nasal saline rinses can help. If it is not improving, see your doctor.

Frequently occurs: It's not unusual to get ear infections or fluid behind the ear drum after influenza. If you are in pain, I would definitely see a physician. Otherwise it may take a couple weeks to go away.
