A member asked:

Sle-normally have low to borderline low complement. had bad infection and flare at same time. complements inc to mid norm range. why did comp go up?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Acute phase protein: Complement is what is called a "positive acute phase protein." This means that is increases in response to inflammation or infection. If you had a bad infection, this would cause your complement levels to rise. They should go back to baseline once your infection has fully cleared.
