Stop drug: If rash goes away when you stop the drug and recurs with trying the drug again, then it is a side effect of the drug and is treated as an allergy.

No test avail: Can't diagnose specifically in this forum, but, in general, I've prescribed benzonatate since it came out and haven't seen anyone experience rash from it. Must be pretty rare. Does cause numbness if held in mouth too long (topical anesthetic). Hope that helps. Bug the one who prescribed it for you. Pharmacist who filled it also a good resource, especially if at an independent pharmacy (my choice!)
