Tough to explain: As described, unless you have sidus inversus, the heart shifting to the left certainly would not cause any issues with obscuring the esophagus (which would normally be to the R of the heart). Your best answer to the reading of the x-rays would come form the Ordering Dr. who if they do not know, could ask the reading radiologist as to why the reading is such. Best wishes.
