Prevention: You might want to talk to your doctor about prevention of heart disease. Steps you can take include not using tobacco, maintaining normal weight, eating a Mediterranean diet ( emphasis on fruits, vegetables, olive oil, whole grains, lean protein), regular aerobic exercise, adequate rest.

Be aware: Family history of heart disease is one of many risk factors and is more important if your mother was young (before age 55) when she needed stents placed. You should have a full risk assessment including blood pressure and cholesterol measurements to be sure other risk factors are under control and just be aware that you may be at higher risk and avoid tobacco use.
