Lengthy menses: A 'normal' period typically lasts 3-9 days. However, one can continue longer under otherwise unconcerning conditions. However, an incomplete spontaneous abortion (miscarriage) can also present this way particularly if the flow is high and there is a lot more cramping than normal. At this point it would be reasonable for a person who has had vaginal bleeding for 12 days to be evaluated.
