Reduce inflammation: The more evidence of inflammation you have going on in your body, the more likely you are to have worsening symptoms of your psoriasis. Methotrexate helps to slow down the rate of DNA synthesis in epidermal cells which are what are proliferating too much of in your disease.More recent research shows it has immunosuppressive effects on activated T cells which contribute to inflammation of psoriasis

Big question.: Short answer: Inflammation is bad for you and increases all cause mortality (in other words increases risk of dying due to cancer, bones thinning, vascular disease, stoke, disabling arthritis, you get the idea.) Long answer is something you may want to read more about, but methotrexate is effective for treating inflammatory disease caused by the immune system attacking your own body. Take care.

MTX in psoriatic: arthritis is a proven treatment http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24566842 there is toxicity wtih it but it requires years to decades of MTX use. The newer antibody treatments are probably stronger and less toxic.
