Could be mono: Pharyngitis describes inflammation or infection in the back of the throat. There are multiple causes such as viruses, strep, fungus. Viruses are usually the most common cause. Epstein Barr virus causes Mononucleosis. Blood work checks for mono instead of the usual swab. Mono can cause fatigue and tender lymph nodes all over the body besides sore throat and pus on the tonsils.
