Needs evaluation: Blood clots can be difficult to diagnose but are potentially very serious. It is best if a patient who suspects they may have them to have a thorough medical evaluation to examine the areas affected, get preliminary measurements, some blood tests could be run as part of the evaluation, and typically get Doppler ultrasounds to evaluate the blood flow through the veins.

DVT needs Evaluation: Common symptoms of a DVT or blood clot in the leg include calf pain, and leg swelling. If you smoke, are on Birth control pills or estrogen, have had recent pelvic surgery, or have been immobile in a sitting position for several hours (ie long plane or car trip), you can be at risk for a blood clot. Go to the nearest ER or contact your Physician for evaluation if you have DVT symptoms.

Need testing: The only way to know if you have a blood clot is to get testing by a doctor. The two most common test is a venous ultrasound of the legs or a blood test called a D-dimer test. You would need one of these to assess. Although some patients with blood clots have leg symptosm of pain & swelling, many have no immediate symptoms at all & so can be dangerous (can embolize to lungs or delayed symptoms).
