Less than 13 gm/dl.: Less than 13 in men signifies a low level. If your hemoglobin is low, then you need to see your physician as there are a long list of causes, some of which represent serious medical problems

Normal levels vary.: In adult males 14-18 mg/dl but, in men after middle age it can be 12.4-14.9 mg/dl. It's best to have a complete blood count yearly unless you have a hematological disease, in that case the monitoring would be more frequent.
