Remain calm: When driven by anger or hostility, we get a response from adrenaline release and can get flustered or react without thinking. A better approach is to remain calm in the face of feeling threatened and walk away from the confrontation. Sometimes acting rashly or impulsive can cause more harm and lead to escalating violence.

If you have means..: You would most likely benefit from a few sessions with a trained counselor who can help you identify why you have fear and intimidation, and more importantly help guide you through techniques to improve this situation and become more assertive without having to worry about intimidation or retaliation. If you can learn how to properly defend yourself with confidence this will help greatly.

Arguing is overrated: A little soul searching might be helpful. Knowing who you are and what you stand for is the first step. If you know what you think is right and define your priorities you will not need to argue or engage in insults. Put your energy into long term goals and more positive commitments. Negativity breeds negativity. Rise above.
