A 25-year-old female asked:

Does implantation bleeding really happen? if it does, how common is it?

Unusual: I believe that implantation bleeding is much less common than many women think, although it does really happen. Most of what women think of as possible implantation bleeding is really irregular bleeding, sometimes due to not ovulating.

A 38-year-old female asked:

Is there really no such thing as implantation bleeding?

Dr. Gerard Honore
Fertility Medicine 29 years experience
Really no, read on:: If you follow HealthTap you'll see I have 100s of posts about implantation bleeding is not real. To explain: this is an older "garbage term" in general gynecology textbooks, means loosely "any unexplained bleeding in an early pregnancy." Fair enough, but women hope it means you can tell early (before a test or a period) you are pregnant if you have spotting. Not true, and I hope this helps.

Normal pregnancy: If the bleeding was due to implantation, the bleeding should stop, and the pregnancy should proceed normally.
