A member asked:

Have been diagnosed with herniated disc l3-l4 and l4-l5, advised for the epidural pain injection also surgery. i am scared, is this the last option?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Herniated disc: Surgery is not the only option. Physical therapy, chiropractic care, aquatic therapy, transcutaneous electrical stimulation, cortisone injections, rhizotomy, bracing and a variety of medications including compound creams can relieve the pain without surgery. Microdiscectomy is the most common surgical procedure to repair a herniated lumbar disc. Fusion is performed when there is instability too.
