Herniated disc: Surgery is not the only option. Physical therapy, chiropractic care, aquatic therapy, transcutaneous electrical stimulation, cortisone injections, rhizotomy, bracing and a variety of medications including compound creams can relieve the pain without surgery. Microdiscectomy is the most common surgical procedure to repair a herniated lumbar disc. Fusion is performed when there is instability too.
