Depends: The safest drug in pregnancy, for a seizure disorder, is the one that best controls the seizures with least risk for the baby. If the safest drug does not help then it does not matter. Your neurologist & FP/gynecologist will determine what is best in your case. Everybody wants the best for you & your baby. Your role?. Be educated about your medicines, follow instructions, eat/exercise right.

Safest Rx for Sz: No drug is entirely safe, but the medicines levetiracetam and lamotrigine (keppra and lamictal) are known to have lower side effects during pregnancy than most other medicines used to treat epilepsy. This is in particular true for teratogenic side effects. Most neurologists will try to use those for people who are pregnant with epilepsy. Most neurologists will avoid valproate during pregnancy.
