Can radiology residents moonlight as clinicians, or can they only interpret images?

Moonlighting: If you want to moonlight for Health Tap, this is the wrong place for the question. Contact the administrative staff at the website. Otherwise, the clinic or hospital that employs you has to grant clinical privileges before you can moonlight.

Yes if licenced: Radiologist are MD or DO and as long as they meet the requirements of licensing in their state, they can moonlight as clinicians.

Rads & moonlighting: You can depending on your state or hospital rules and (obviously) having an active license. Although I have known colleagues to have done this, very few have admitted the extra time sync is worth it. Few imaging centers will pay for a radiologist to stay after hours to monitor contrast injections. At least then you can STUDY! :)

Licensed MD/DO yes.: If they are licensed in the state to practice medicine, they can practice as clinicians. The residency is a specialization, such as an attorney who desires to specialize in one field of law, can also practice general law.

Yes. : Radiology residents have completed their medical doctorate degree, either MD or DO. So, they can act as clinicians. Many moonlight at imaging centers to watch for contrast reactions. As far as reading films, some may find jobs procuring preliminary unofficial reports of exams. But most practices require board certification to practice.

Malpractice issues: Radiology residents' malpractice coverage by the hospital is often specialty specific. The resident could get his/her own clinical insurance, but it might be cost prohibitive. Radiology fellows (who have graduated a residency) moonlight all the time but do it in radiology. Some rad. residents were clinicians in their former lives and some occ. keep doing clinical work.
