Not normal: It is not normal to throw up blood, and the fact that you had retching and vomiting, this was probably because of that. If the blood was copius then go to the ER or if it happens again and/or if you are dizzy or lightheaded. Sometimes you can get a small or minor teary, something that is called a Mallory-Weiss tear which can occur after heavy retching or vomiting but can be self limiting.
