A couple of reasons: It could be because you snack and eat empty calories; a lot of carbohydrate snacks like chips have the effect of suppressing your body's ability to feel full. Or it could be that you aren't so much hungry as bored. (I remember medical school.) Try to eat good meals before you study, and if you snack, try to snack on protein and vegetables. Drink lots of water as well. It helps.
