A member asked:

My doctor asked me to double my colchecine dose from 1 mg daily to 2 mg, is this safe?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Colchicine: Colchicine comes in 0.6 mg tablets. Max recommended dose for familial Mediterranean fever is TOTAL of 1.2 to 2.4 mg (2 to 4 tabs) in one day, given in one or two divided doses. The dose for gout is less, but I doubt you have gout at your age. Colchicine can cause nausea, diarrhea and kidney problems, and few patients can tolerate 2 mg at one time. Call your Dr. ASAP if severe side effects.
