A member asked:

Is a subcapsular hematoma common after liver biospy? what would cause it to occur and how serious is it if it does occur?

A doctor has provided 1 answer
Dr. Al Deeb answered

Not common: Hemorrhage from the needle biopsy can cause a clot to form under the surface capsule of the liver, it usually responds to expectant treatment without surgery. patients are advised to stay away of contact sports and stay close to an acute care hospital and follow up with their physician if not observed in a hospital setting
