Keep it clean: It is difficult to keep feet and toenails clean, which helps to prevent infection. For this reason, if the cut is deep enough to bleed significantly, it probably makes sense to apply an anti-bacterial ointment and cover with a band-aid. This may help to avoid pain as well. This advice is especially important for diabetics for whom foot injuries can be very dangerous.
