Imm (une memory last: Your immune system may always have a small positive antibody response to the former presence of the syphilis, and the very weak reaction (via RPR) indicates past treatment was effective. If you are referring to confirmatory testing for infectivity still being positive, then it is also possible that you have been re=exposed and may need retreatment. Not uncommon: VDRL is a screening tool used to detect the infection and as follow up after treatment. The false positive rate for the VDRL test is about 2%, and many people will continue to have positive but low titers for up to 2 years after successful treatment. The key is how are the TITERS comparing to each other with each follow-up screen, and if any other illnesses or symptoms are present.
